Just taking it easy this week. Rest and supply prep for the race on Sunday.
I know I shouldn't be running much this week but the weather's been so nice it seems like a sin not to run in it. So I've been running some, not too hard though.
Race goals and concerns:
This will be my first attempt at a 100k. I feel like I'm pretty good shape.
As always, fueling will be my biggest concern. I still don't think I've found the right foods and drink, or at least the right amounts. On each of my 50 mile runs I've had some stomach issues. But I'm wondering if it's because I eat too much. In the past few weeks I've done two 30+ mile runs and one 40-mile run. Each with minimal fueling. So this weekend I might try to fight the temptation to eat too much at the aid stations.
My goal is to finish under 12 hours. This might be pushing it a bit, but that's what goals should be, right?
The sun's out today, I'll probably go for another run.
Fueling is such an art and so individualistic. I think that's what makes running long distances so interesting. There are no guarantees that what worked the last time will work the next time.ReplyDelete

I've had a lot of success lately with just unflavored Hammer Gel. It's going to be 80% of my fuel for my next 50 miler. What works for me however may not work for you. Hope you are able to break the code on your nutritional needs with this run.
Ordinarily I don't think you would have any problem breaking 12 hours however the wind can be a factor. Don't let the relay runners push your pace. You will probably actually beat some of the relay teams. I have not run the WSU 100K but I was there last year during the race and watched several runners finish.

I reckon eating small amounts at regular intervals works well, but I've never run more than 30 miles in one go!so what do I know!!!
