Ah, snow...

An itty-bitty snow storm on Tuesday was almost enough to ruin my entire spring/summer (more photos) . Emotional recovery has been slow, but I'm doing okay now.

I've had a bit of a cold this week and have been tired on my runs. Still putting in the miles (another 50+ week) but just not pushing it as hard.

Sadie and I were back on the trails yesterday. I'm less than a month away from the Iceland race, and just a month and a half away from the White River 50, my biggest challenge yet. I feel lucky to have some good trails to train on for these upcoming mountain runs. I don't have nearly as much vertical gain as I'm going to see at the White River 50, but it's good training.

We ran a very tiring 28 miles yesterday. At about 20 I wanted to just lay down on the trail and take a nap. But I wanted to go home too bad to stop. I felt weak. From the cold or the miles?... Sadie set another distance PR. She's a running rock star. The streams on the mountain are getting lower. These are Sadie's drinking fountains. By next month most of them will be dried up and I'll have to carry extra water for her. Yesterday I went through about 80 oz. myself. An aid station or two would have been very, very nice.

Hmm, is this the work of my semi-virtual-nemesis?

Sadie the rock star.

Keep running!

Scott

  4. Wow. Snow in June. I can see how it was a mental challenge. We're just seeing the end (I hope!) to our 50 & 60 degree weather, which has been hard, but I can't even imagine SNOW. Hang in there!

Best wishes as you work toward the race in a month. How exciting!

  6. You must be so over snow by now? If they had an Olympics for dogs Sadie would have the marathon all wrapped up. What do you feed her?

  10. Nice weather!

The best thing about having a cold it the great snot rockets you can emit while you run. Clears you right out!

I wonder if they make a dogie hydration pack? Maybe you could get one of those dog packs and put zip lock bags full of water in the pouches. You could then empty the pouch into the pooch!

  12. you are a running maniac. and the people in northern idaho are just plain crazy- especially regarding trails and anything other than invisible humans.

time for you to move on to alaska- there are LOADS of trails. in fact, i will likely be forced to trail run as all the parks are trail systems- not so much paved. unles i stick to sidewalks with less chances of getting stomped by a moose!

  13. NO WAY!!?? We have our own trail? At least that's how I read it. How cool is that? When is there NOT snow so that we can run it? :D

I thought of you in Scotland. I did what I would consider my first real trail run, one that I'm certain you would have loved, and totally kicked my kicked my ass on. I'm sure it would have given you a lot of material regarding my lack of trail skills. :D I will post some pics when I get everything sorted out.

    Sadie is my hero!!

  17. Iceland sounds really awesome. What an adventure. Your report on a snow run brought memories of a recent run of mine in Colorado. One day 75 degrees, next day 35 and snow. It was interesting.

  18. Stop with the SNOW!! I am burning up here in SC and all you report about is snow. On top of that you want aid stations on your 28 mile training run.... SPOILED :)

I have always known that Sadie was a rock star.
